i think there are some upsets to be had this week.
soto-toledo: soto is good, with the rare combo of youth and ring experience. i can see the guy holding onto a few belts down the road. toledo is more of a showcase, hopefully afterwards soto takes on some of the elites. soto pays -2500, only good for parlays.
mesi-linberger: heres a chance to make some solid cash!!! linberger pays +600. had this fight happened pre-bleed id say this is an easy mesi tko1. however, since the jirov blows to the back of mesi's head, joe hasnt been the same. he is slow with poor reflexes. linberger is terrible but he is allot better than the guys mesi has fought recently. a few of those guys gave mesi a rough time. mesi retires after this fight.
tua-hawkins: hawkins doesnt have enough power to keep tua honest. this one may go the distance, may be closer than it should be, but tua wins. tua pays -2500, at this price hawkins may be worth a small wager.
abazi-guerrero: this is a no win for the ghost. guerrero has KO abazi to win. he wont get the decision in denmark, where some truelly horrid hometown decisions have happened. abazi pays -135
davis-wilson: 2 small heavies/blown up cruisers. wilson has done halfway decent vs. heavies he has faced, so im guessing he has the power over davis. davis looks tough but he doesnt take a shot very well and his stamina is terrible. ill go with wilson paying -150
marrone-barnes: ever since i saw marrone almost get KOed by zack page ive been low on him. barnes is a solid jounryman due an upset win. marrone is probally better than maddalone and gavern though, 2 guys that beat barnes. marrone pays -1800, which is too much. barnes might be decent at +1000 for a small wager.
banks-ayala: when its a rematch i tend to go for the guy that won the first fight. when the first winner pays +235, i jump all over it. maybe it was a bad decision but it still counts. banks won the first fight and pays +235
montiel-gorres: montiel is a good fighter that has never lost a fight that wasnt real close. gorres is fighting in his home country. latino fighters have been getting shafted in asia for the last few years, im guessing gorres wins by SD. gorres pays +175
35 on linberger
20 on 2 man soto, wilson
20 on banks
20 on gorres
20 on 2 man soto, abazi
5 on barnes
5 on a 5 man soto, tua, banks, abazi, gorres parlay
im guessing tommy morrison wins his comeback fight also

Wagers for week of 02.09
a nice small week of quality fights.
johanssen-burns: this is a hard fight to call. burns is tricky and he handed graham earl his first loss. johanssen probally has the tools to win but i wouldnt count burns out. burns pays +115
chambers-rossy: 2 prospects fighting, who cares if neither is really that great. chambers probally has enough skill to avoid anything rossy can bring. fast eddie probally cruises to an easy, boring UD. chambers pays -240
juarez-lucero: there was a bad line on the sportsboard when this first came out. the first line read juarez -170, i knew that was a mistake. its been corrected to -1700 and thats right on the money. easy win for rocky.
mosley-collazo: i think mosley wins this fight, allthough it may not be pretty. he has the tools and does the little things that will help him get a decision. collazo is game but in the longrun just doesnt have the physical tools to compete with sugar shane. also collazo will not enjoy the size advantage he had vs. hatton. mosley by TKO/KO/DQ is a good bet because collazo bleeds. mosley pays -360
harris-lazcano: juan lazcano came in fat his last fight vs. fringe contender garnica and almost got beat. probally got a gift from what i have read, before that he was wrecking solid fighters. harris is overated and i think he is badly overpriced at -295. juan lazcano paying +235 is solid wager. this is a really a pick'em, and in my mind almost losing to a journeyman is not as bad as being knocked out by one like harris was not so long ago.
ward-salazar: this is the easy money fight. ward pays -1300. she has allready beat salazar and will beat her again simply because she will be about 9 inches taller than her. ward also proves that someone can be brutally KO'ed and still come back. her ko loss to wolfe was as hard of a KO as ive ever seen.
kikui-kono: kikui has allready won a close fight vs. kono. however i think kono has a pretty awesome name. kohei kono sounds like a ninja. ill wager on a ninja everytime. kono pays +140

Top 25 Heavies for January
my top 25 heavyweights as of 12-12-06. to be updated 01-22-07
1. wladimir klitschko: remains #1.
2. sam peter: will have to KO toney to generate more hype for a wlad rematch.
3. james toney: looked fat recently, probally on his way to another loss or draw.
4. shannon briggs: I think he gets KO'ed vs. sultan.
5. nicolay valuev: mccline is the perfect opponent for him.
6. oleg maskaev: thank god he didnt lose to okhello, oleg loses to the first semi-decent conteder he faces.
7. calvin brock: probally have him overanked, will drop him if he doesnt look good in his next fight.
8. sergei lyakhovich: see #7.
9. ruslan chagaev: id favor him over mccline or valuev, valuev would be a closer fight though.
10. sultan ibragimov: gets his shot vs. the 2nd most beatable titlist.
11. ray austin: soon to be fodder for a young gun.
12. hasim rahman: he will be a 10 loss gatekeeper by 09.
13. john ruiz: see #12.
14. lamon brewster: should be back soon, see #7.
15. chris byrd: i think he is done, floyd patterson type retirement for byrd.
16. matt skelton: might as well fight audley.
17. evander holyfield: id favor him over maskaev big.
18. oliver mccall: showed last week that he can still pour it on when he has to.
19. wladimir virchis: good resume, his only loss was controversial to #9.
20. david tua: fighting journeymen all the way to a title shot aka. the maskaev route .
21. michael moorer: power alone gets him a ranking. can still dominate clubfighters.
22. davarryl williamson: has enough pop to hurt anyone. still dangerous for prospects wanting into the top 25. good gatekeeper.
23. jameel mccline: last chance vs. valuev, better fight like he wants to win rather than just fighting to survive.
24. alexander povetkin: did what he should have done to mayfield, should fight a gatekeeper next.
25. tony thompson: guinn almost got upset last week, that makes his biggest win have less luster.
the 15 outside looking in (no order): oleg platov, eddie chambers, malik scott, larry donald, luan krasniqui, jf bergeron, jd chapman, roman greenberg, mike mollo, taras bidenko, alexander dimitrenko, chris arreola, tye fields, travis walker and brian minto.
ray mercer is the latest old man to make a comeback. he will be fighting this weekend vs. a journeyman.
danny williams career is officially over. he got allot of mileage out of that tyson victory; not training for big fights was a bad career move though.

SUPERBOWL
Superbowl.
the colts are -7 faves paying just -250.
it will the first time in awhile i havent bet on the dog in a championship game.
i personally think defense wins championships, however peyton manning is a new breed of QB. having him is like having an extra coach on the field. give that guy two weeks of studying tape and i think he finds one of the few holes in that bears D. also rex grossman has had 2 good games and the man is due to screw up.
120 on the colts
5 on the colts to win by 1-6
5 to win by 7-12
5 on heads on the coin flip.
5 on peyton to win mvp
5 on freeney
5 on the final score of 27-16

The Big Weekend!!!!
The Big Weekend.
boxing first, of course
stevens-mack: stevens is heavily hyped and i dont know why. he is average, i even think his power is overated. its easy to get KO's when fighting guys that have little to no skill. mack isnt a world beater but he is a bit better than stevens. mack pays +115.
lawrence-guinn: i bet against guinn vs. page and almost won a big upset (ive read that page and i were robbed) guinn is now just fighting to get a paycheck. lawrence may have gotten knocked cold in his last fight but ive seen that happen plenty of times to guys and they recover. lawrence was always a defensive first fighter anyways and guinn will probally help him out by only throwing 20-30 punches a round. lawrence pays +200
kirkland-lyell: kirkland has all the skill needed to win easy. pays only -1100
bradley-garnica: it depends what garnica shows up. the portly slow garnica that got KO'ed by mike rosales, or the counterpuncher that beat up mausa and was robbed vs. lazcano? neither of those guys have much anymore though. bradley is a fireplug and will be a contender for years to come, i think he makes a statement with this win. bradley pays -200
baloyi-ruiz: ruiz is not as bad as his record and baloyi is not as good as his. however ruiz makes it a habit of losing decisions in his opps backyard. chances are he will lose another whether he deserves it or not. baloyo pays -875
ali-o'neal: easy money here. ali should win just as easy as she did a few years ago. we need uglier, tougher women to fight. watching these same ladies fight over and over makes womens boxing almost impossible to watch. ali pays -7000
adamek-dawson: dawson is still a +160 dog. this should be an even fight. adamek has fought and beat the better comp. but those guys had a style that suits his. its easy to get the tough wins when your opps. style fits yours so well. adameki has heart and a good punch but dawson will be the first guy he has fought that can box circles around him. im all over dawson at +160
diaz-chavez: ive seen too many guys lose their edge after an opponent dies. chavez seems like he may be one of those, top that off with the fact that he has been plagued with injuries and diaz has impressed me allot lately, ill take diaz at -140spinks-jones: why the hell is spinks only -260? jones and spinks have close to the same style, however spinks is allot faster. spinks will win this by scores of 118-110, 119-109 and that sort.
rabah-ndou: a pick'em. i like ndous take all comers attitude and his underdog odds so ill go with him paying +115. i have no real rhyme or reason for doing so though.
