Top 25 Heavies for January

my top 25 heavyweights as of 12-12-06. to be updated 01-22-07
1. wladimir klitschko: remains #1.
2. sam peter: will have to KO toney to generate more hype for a wlad rematch.
3. james toney: looked fat recently, probally on his way to another loss or draw.
4. shannon briggs: I think he gets KO'ed vs. sultan.
5. nicolay valuev: mccline is the perfect opponent for him.
6. oleg maskaev: thank god he didnt lose to okhello, oleg loses to the first semi-decent conteder he faces.
7. calvin brock: probally have him overanked, will drop him if he doesnt look good in his next fight.
8. sergei lyakhovich: see #7.
9. ruslan chagaev: id favor him over mccline or valuev, valuev would be a closer fight though.
10. sultan ibragimov: gets his shot vs. the 2nd most beatable titlist.
11. ray austin: soon to be fodder for a young gun.
12. hasim rahman: he will be a 10 loss gatekeeper by 09.
13. john ruiz: see #12.
14. lamon brewster: should be back soon, see #7.
15. chris byrd: i think he is done, floyd patterson type retirement for byrd.
16. matt skelton: might as well fight audley.
17. evander holyfield: id favor him over maskaev big.
18. oliver mccall: showed last week that he can still pour it on when he has to.
19. wladimir virchis: good resume, his only loss was controversial to #9.
20. david tua: fighting journeymen all the way to a title shot aka. the maskaev route .
21. michael moorer: power alone gets him a ranking. can still dominate clubfighters.
22. davarryl williamson: has enough pop to hurt anyone. still dangerous for prospects wanting into the top 25. good gatekeeper.
23. jameel mccline: last chance vs. valuev, better fight like he wants to win rather than just fighting to survive.
24. alexander povetkin: did what he should have done to mayfield, should fight a gatekeeper next.
25. tony thompson: guinn almost got upset last week, that makes his biggest win have less luster.

the 15 outside looking in (no order): oleg platov, eddie chambers, malik scott, larry donald, luan krasniqui, jf bergeron, jd chapman, roman greenberg, mike mollo, taras bidenko, alexander dimitrenko, chris arreola, tye fields, travis walker and brian minto.

ray mercer is the latest old man to make a comeback. he will be fighting this weekend vs. a journeyman.

danny williams career is officially over. he got allot of mileage out of that tyson victory; not training for big fights was a bad career move though.

Chris Arreola's stock is rising but he is still untested. I want to see him against an elite heavy weight. I hope that the heavy weight division will once again attract people to the great sport of boxing and restore it to its former glory.
